DIRTY OBJECTS
DDW 2025 - MICROSTAD - GRADUATION SHOW
Would you use a spoon that has been used by countless anonymous strangers?

In restaurants we do exactly that without giving it a second thought. Yet, a spoon found alone in a second-hand shop can repulse us. When does an object become ‘dirty’? Ever-faster production cycles create ever-more pollution. Second-hand shops overflow with perfectly functional objects which were discarded in favour of trendier versions. Madeleine Scholtes repurposes second-hand spoons, polishing them until they are reflective like mirrors. ‘Dirty Objects’ challenges conventional views on reuse, sparking conversations about sustainability and conscious consumption. Gazing at yourself in 201 reflective surfaces, you are invited to reconsider your relationship with previously used everyday items.
